Model Citizen Guidelines

  • Model Citizen Guidelines is a fictitious childhood schoolbook with lessons and illustrations based on principles I was taught as a kid and later found problematic. The book uses humor and sarcasm to provoke thought and raise questions about conventional ideas on what constitutes "good behavior" and "good values" in a society.

  • Be a team player.
  • Be good at everything.
  • Focus on your books, not on your looks.
  • Crying is embarrassing (for boys.)
  • Mind your own business.
  • Rich people are not your friends.
  • Teachers are like diligent gardeners.
  • Kid without a mom is like a rainy day.
  • Boys and girls should stay away from each other.
  • Suffering is good for you.
  • Be the leader.
  • Always be contributing.
