BFA Thesis: In This House

  • In This House
It is a personal credo that items of little consequence have the capacity to take on the bones of moments and suck the marrow into their being; allowing a single moment the ability to become a world. Galvanizing that sentiment, my work construes the transient, anthropological, and often ambiguous bread crumbs stippled along the human timeline through the usage of intricate compulsive processes and multi-layered visual linguistics. Through the filter of comprehensive symbology, my use of alternative materials intends to elicit a relatable, visceral response through tactile sensory language.

'In This House' is an idiomatic expression of a singular anthropology that unearths the dredge of sexual traumas, abuse through the often indelicate filter of a young child learning to process a series of intimate events occurring throughout life; each subconsciously influenced by these past traumas. Material connotation and symbolic association create platforms of exploration and explanation towards a suppressed taboo seeded in the child and subsequently poisoning the adult.

Only through the forbearance of my soul, may I command it.
